Marketing can best be defined as the process of selling your product to a specific audience. Marketing of products must be valuable in order for us to earn our living. Who is on your list, when layoffs have to be made, and wages have to be reduced? More times than not it is marketing that gets the word out. It is a story as old as time itself. Even the ancient Romans had a saying which goes, nepotism as pebble o’clock.
What does marketing do? It brings in new clients to your business, people who would otherwise never come in. It increases sales of your products, your service or both. It makes you and your company famous, making it harder for others to avoid you. And it does all this while creating awareness of your products or service.
What do you need for a successful marketing campaign? You need a product, a company, a marketing plan and a marketing budget. All of these are necessary for any campaign to get off the ground.
The first thing you need is a product. Your product has to solve a problem for which there is a supply. The most successful companies today are those that provide products that solve problems. If your product doesn’t solve a person s problem, they will buy something else. A product that gets the customer what she wants in addition to what she needs makes him think twice about buying anything else.
Next you need a company to market your product. There are many ways to do this, but probably the best way is to get a list. To get a list, I suggest you either buy lists from the newspaper or get lists from email list brokers such as Mailchimp. If you want an even bigger bang for your buck, try getting Google AdWords set up for you. You can find instructions on how to do that in my other articles in this series.
Once you have your product and a company to market it to, the best thing you can do for your business is to advertise. Advertising is vital to getting your product out there and into the market. If you want to know what do marketing do, this is the first part. Other parts include making your product easily recognizable, building your email list, writing great ads and articles to get them to look at them and finally, having the perseverance to follow through with your ads.
